BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – A family is grieving the devastating loss of a mother and daughter who were swept away by raging flood waters in Hart County last weekend.
Amy Philpott, 35, and her 7-year-old daughter, Charlotte Mae Philpott, were caught in rising flood waters along Campground Road in the Bonnieville community. Their vehicle became submerged, and despite Amy’s frantic calls for help, emergency responders were unable to reach them in time.
Rescue crews recovered Charlotte Mae from the vehicle on Saturday night, but efforts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.
Due to water levels and nighttime conditions, the search for Amy was paused until Sunday morning, when crews were finally able to recover her and the car.
Now, their family is seeking support from the community via a GoFundMe page to help pay for their funerals. Nearly $9,000 of the $10,000 goal had been raised as of Friday morning.
Amy Philpott was remembered as a devoted mother, loving wife, and dedicated caregiver.
She spent her days nurturing her daughter and providing care for her grandmother. Family members say she had a remarkable heart, always putting the needs of others before her own.
“Amy went above and beyond to ensure she [their grandmother] was always felt comfortable, supported, and never alone,” according to GoFundMe.
Charlotte Mae brought immense joy to those around her, her family said. She was described as a bright soul who filled every room with laughter and love.
“Although her time with us was short, the love and laughter she gave will be forever cherished,” the family said. “Charlotte Mae was a bright soul, full of wonder and curiosity, she had the ability to brighten any room with a smile or her little extraordinary hugs.”
Anyone wishing to support the family during this time can visit the GoFundMe page or the funeral home’s website for updates on services.
Final arrangements are being handled by Nelson, Edelen, and Bennett Funeral Home in Radcliff.
