These data vastly underestimate the true magnitude of non-traffic fatal incidents involving children.  This chart represents the incidents KidsAndCars.org has documented involving children < 14 years of age. Location specific data and 2021 data available upon request.

Not-in-Traffic Surveillance Reports:  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is now required to collect data about nontraffic incidents as per the provision KidsAndCars.org helped adopt as part of the 2005 Federal Transportation bill (SAFETEA-LU). NHTSA refers to this new database as the “Nontraffic-Surveillance” system or NTS.
