Injuries from Power Windows Greatly Underestimated!

KidsAndCars.org hosted a press conference on November 2, 2009 in Washington, DC unveiling data collected in a poll administered by Harris Interactive that refutes National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) approximated power window-related injuries with statistics that differ not by thousands, but by millions of U.S. incidents. These data further support KidsAndCars.org’s claim that automatic reversing (ARS) windows should be standard on all vehicles.

The results from the KidsAndCars.org new study provides strong evidence that the automatic reversing feature must be made standard on all power windows, protecting children from death and injury.

News and Updates

KidsAndCars.org is a national nonprofit child safety organization dedicated to preventing injuries and death to children in or around motor vehicles. KidsAndCars.org has been pioneering a national prevention movement since 1996 by promoting the highest level of awareness among parents, caregivers, legislators and the public at-large about the dangers inherent to children in or around motor vehicles. KidsAndCars.org works to prevent these sudden tragic events through data collection, education and public awareness, policy change, regulations and survivor advocacy.

It is difficult to think of anything more tragic than the needless (preventable) death of a child. Every one of these deaths is a tragedy, especially to family and friends; and each one serves as a powerful warning that other children are at risk.

You're very welcome here. Take your time and explore the valuable resources available on our website. We hope you find this information useful and will want to help us work to prevent children from being injured or killed.

See what your vehicle's blind zone measurements are.

“In the US fifty children are being backed over by vehicles EVERY week.  Forty-eight are treated in hospital emergency rooms and at least two children are fatally injured every WEEK.  These unthinkable tragedies are happening most often in the driveway of the child’s home and in 70% of the incidents the driver of the vehicle is their parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or older sibling.”
