Bailey Marie Olsen

October 14, 2015 - October 15, 2015

On October 14, 2015 at 10:28 pm Bailey Marie Olsen was born by emergency c-section after we were involved in a horrific car accident. Unfortunately, as a result, Bailey suffered an irreversible brain injury from the lap belt and passed away on the morning of October 15th.

Instead of bringing our baby girl home we must face the hardest thing for any parent to do, say goodbye.

Bailey was a perfectly healthy little girl throughout the pregnancy. I was 35 weeks when the accident occurred, she was 6lbs. 11oz and 20inches long and still had 5 weeks to go. She had her mom’s personality and I knew what a perfect little girl she would be.

Our hearts hurt as we were preparing to introduce our princess to the world. Instead, we had to say goodbye far too soon. Our little girl fought as much as she could for her mom and dad. The emergency teams did all they could to save her, but the injury was too severe to overcome. Our perfect and beautiful girl was robbed of her opportunity to live life to the fullest.

Many parents do not feel tragedies of this magnitude will happen to them, we didn’t.  Through all our research as first time parents this topic didn’t come up as we were trying to make sure we had a happy, healthy pregnancy.

After our accident we began our research and came across the Tummy Shield.  The tummy shield is a specially designed seat belt made for pregnant women.  It diverts the lap belt off of the abdomen. The lap belt is what caused the injury to our sweet Bailey. If the Tummy Shield was something that was talked about on a larger scale our daughter would still be with us today.  I highly suggest that all pregnant women invest in a Tummy Shield, it is your child’s life at stake. I wish we would have known.

I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living my baby you’ll be.
