Ashleigh Adams

February 28, 2003 - September 9, 2005

Matthew and Ellen Adams had two beautiful children, Ashleigh and Jack. Ashleigh Adams was a blonde haired, blue eyed beauty that was loved unconditionally by her parents and her big brother.

On September 9, 2005, the Adams family’s lives changed forever when they lost their baby girl.

That day, the Adams family had just returned to their Ponte Vedra, FL home from an outing. Ashleigh’s mother, Ellen was taking the kids out of the car and putting them inside the house. Ellen had unbuckled Ashleigh first and put her safely inside their home. She then went back out to the family’s SUV in the driveway to get Jack.

Ashleigh ran out of the house unbeknownst to her parents to say good-bye to her daddy and her father, Matthew, began pulling out of the driveway. Unable to see Ashleigh in the large blindzone behind his Ford Excursion, Matthew backed over his baby girl, never knowing she had come outside. The whole thing took only 30 seconds. The entire family was unbelievably distraught, including Ashleigh’s 3-year-old brother who witnessed the tragedy.

Three years after the Adams family lost Ashleigh, the heartache had become far too much for Ashleigh’s grieving father, who bared the weight of his daughter’s death. Sadly, Matthew ended his own life. Ellen and Jack were once again devastated by the loss of another beloved family member.

Since the Adams family’s tragic losses, Ashleigh’s mother Ellen has chosen to get involved with KidsAndCars.org and help raise awareness about the very dangerous blindzones that exist on all types of vehicles. She has shared her painful story in hopes that no more families have to suffer the pain that her family has. ”
